The Center for Conservation Biology is a research and education organization within the Department of Biology at the College of William & Mary. Our particular focus is the development of information resources needed for effective, science-based conservation. We believe that information is the currency that drives all aspects of conservation. Our information is used on a daily basis to determine which parcels of land warrant protection, how government policies should be written and implemented, and how vulnerable species should be managed.
In a relatively short period of time, the Center for Conservation Biology has become one of the most significant producers of information products dealing with birds in the mid-Atlantic region. Over the past 15 years, we have conducted more than 300 different research projects dealing with a broad diversity of species, habitats, and problems. Discoveries to date have shaped how we view species and how we approach their conservation. Tomorrow, new discoveries will further refine and improve our ability to make important conservation decisions.
More than the physical facility and information resources, the Center is a group of professionals, students, and citizens who are dedicated to the common vision that the natural environment is an important part of our quality of life.
