Nonprofit Mission

Since our founding in 1946 by Stanford University, SRI has been committed to discovery and to the application of science and technology for knowledge, commerce, prosperity, and peace. SRI became independent of the university in 1970, and we changed our name to SRI International in 1977. With representatives from the nonprofit and commercial sectors, a prestigious and active Board of Directors governs SRI. Staff

SRI employs 2,500 people worldwide, including scientists, engineers, technologists, policy researchers, and corporate and support staff. More than 40 percent of our people have advanced educational degrees, and many are renowned leaders in their fields.
