Our History
Met-Pro Technologies LLC, with headquarters at 160 Cassell Road, Harleysville, Pennsylvania, is a leading global provider of product recovery, pollution control, fluid handling and filtration solutions. The Company's diverse and synergistic solutions and products address the world's growing need for clean air and water, reduced energy consumption and improved operating efficiencies.
The history of Met-Pro is marked by a strong focus on growth through the introduction of new products, strategic acquisitions and expansions into new geographic markets. Originally a one-building metal fabrication shop in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Met-Pro began the transition into an environmental company in the mid 1960's when contracts were obtained to build water purification units for the U.S. Army. For the first several years of its existence, the Company, then known as Met-Pro Water Treatment Corporation, built thousands of these units to be put on trucks and shipped throughout the world, so army units in the field could purify swamp water or brackish water for the troops.
Recognizing that the Company did not want to be totally dependent on government business, Met-Pro began diversifying into the commercial, residential, and industrial sectors. Becoming a publicly traded company (NYSE:MPR) in 1967 provided funds for the acquisition of carefully selected companies in pollution control and fluid handling businesses.
The early 1970's produced three strategic acquisitions and the creation of a new business.
o1970, acquired Stiles-Kem Corporation, a producer of proprietary specialty chemicals for water treatment and corrosion control founded in 1955.
o1971, acquired Keystone Filter Corporation, a manufacturer of filtration products founded in 1965.
o1971, acquired Sethco Manufacturing Corporation and Sethco Pump Company, Inc., manufacturers of filtration and fluid handling equipment for the metal finishing industry founded in 1960. Sethco Pump was later renamed Fybroc, Inc., reflecting its line of corrosion resistant fiberglass reinforced pumps
o1971, formed Met-Pro Systems, a company devoted to the design, manufacture and sale of filtration, clarification and waste treatment systems.
In 1974, the Company officially changed its name to Met-Pro Corporation and four years later, in 1978, moved into a newly constructed corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. 1979 brought the acquisition of Oxy-Catalyst, Inc., whose catalytic and thermal incinerators, carbon adsorption systems and specialty catalysts were immediately incorporated into Met-Pro Systems giving the company entr?e into the vast field of air pollution control.
Two significant acquisitions occurred during the decade of the 80's, which strengthened both the Company's fluid handling and pollution control business segments.
o1984, acquired Dean Brothers Pumps Inc., an industrial process pump manufacturer specializing in pumps for high temperature applications founded in 1869.
o1988, acquired Duall Industries, Inc. a manufacturer of odor control and ventilation equipment founded in 1964.
Also in 1988, Forbes magazine named Met-Pro one of the "200 Best Small Companies in America", a distinction that has been enjoyed several times in the ensuing years.
Met-Pro continued to pursue strategic acquisitions in the 1990's.
o1993, acquired Mefiag Filtration, a prominent European based manufacturer of high efficiency filtration systems with operations in the Netherlands and Puerto Rico, in business since 1953.
o1996, acquired Strobic Air Corporation, the industry leader in mixed-flow impeller roof exhaust systems founded in 1966.
o1998, in the Company's largest acquisition to date, Met-Pro added Flex-Kleen Corporation, a leading manufacturer of dry particulate dust collector systems founded in 1959.
The Company continued to grow during the first decade of the 21st century. In 2002, the Company completed the acquisition of Pristine Hydrochemical Inc. and immediately merged its chemical water treatment product lines with those of Stiles-Kem. Three years later, in 2005, Stiles-Kem and Pristine Hydrochemical Inc. were consolidated under the new name Pristine Water Solutions Inc. Also in 2005, Met-Pro established its first manufacturing operation in the People's Republic of China, Mefiag (Guangzhou) Filter Systems, Ltd.
From its humble beginnings as a one-building metal fabrication shop, Met-Pro successfully grew into a leading global provider of solutions and products for product recovery, pollution control, fluid handling and filtration applications. As the Company entered the second decade of the new century, it had already made several key changes to drive its growth:
oconsolidated its Duall, Flex-Kleen and Met-Pro Systems business units into Met-Pro Environmental Air Solutions, providing customers with an experienced single source for increased engineering and project management capabilities, total solutions to their complex emission requirements, and outstanding field service.
orebranded the Met-Pro Pump Group as Met-Pro Global Pump Solutions to establish a single distinctive brand for our wide variety of pumping solutions.
oacquired Bio-Reaction Industries Inc., a pioneer in environmentally friendly air pollution control systems utilizing state-of-the-art biological technology to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), and odors.
oestablished a new subsidiary in South America, Met-Pro Chile Limitada, to improve its competitive profile throughout that rapidly industrializing market.
On April 22, 2013, CECO Environmental Corp. (NasdaqGM: CECE), a leader in air pollution control technology systems, product recovery and filtration technology, announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Met-Pro Corporation. The acquisition was completed on August 27, 2013.
