Laurie Gates Inc. is and always will be about providing fun and fashionable dinnerware and tabletop accessories to people's tables across the entire world. Headquartered in Los Angeles County, California with a satellite office in New York City, the 19-person company is owned and operated by Laurie Gates-Himself. Yes - Laurie is a man and not a woman, we're sorry to say. His family roots are Irish and English and it wasn't uncommon for men back in the day to be named Laurie. We all still chuckle here at the office when customers ask to speak to HER!
Laurie was born and raised in western Canada. His beautiful and talented mother, an artist in her own right lives on picturesque Vancouver Island. Throughout his life, rugged northern Alberta where he had a farm and cattle ranch. In the mid-80's, he eventually sold his ranch and moved to beautiful and sunny Southern California with his then young son.
Laurie immediately fell in love with the bright and happy colors that characterize southern California. The cool blues of the Pacific Ocean to the golden sands of the Coachella Valley's desert, this backdrop along with his time in western Canada served as the fuel and design inspiration of what is now Laurie Gates Inc.
In the late eighties, Laurie took over a ceramic pottery in West Los Angeles where he manufactured and distributed his hand-painted earthenware designs to many independent retailers across the USA and Canada. In fact, all of the patterns were and continued to be designed in California by Laurie Gates himself. His designs are known for being fun and happy, for their intricacy and detail, and for his consistent use of bright and vivid colors.
In early 2000, Laurie moved all his manufacturing overseas while still maintaining a design studio, administrative, and distribution facility in Los Angeles. His products are available at many retailers worldwide.
