Our History
Kimble Chase Life Science and Research Products was formed in July 2007, as a result of a joint venture formed from specific operations of ThermoFisher and Gerresheimer Glass, Inc. The newly formed company combines the manufacturing capabilities of seven operating facilities located worldwide, enabling Kimble Chase to be the lowest cost producer of disposable, reusable and specialty glassware for pharmaceutical, scientific and educational applications.
The origin of Kimble Chase's global footprint began nearly a century ago, when Evan Kimble founded Kimble Glass Company in Chicago, Illinois. His first products included homeopathic vials, thistle funnels, droppers and medicine tubes. Kimble relocated the company to Vineland, New Jersey in 1911. At the end of the First World War, Kimble introduced its first volumetric laboratory glassware. Since that time, Kimble has been known as the market leader in the manufacture of volumetric ware.
During the Second World War, the Kimble product line continued to grow and brothers, Jim and William Kontes, formed the Kontes Glass Company. Kontes quickly became recognized as the highest quality manufacturer of specialty glassware. Kontes Glass is known for helping to develop semi-micro, macro and microscale organic labware kits, straight-sided joints and metabolic reaction flasks. Building reputations for quality and service, Kimble and Kontes continued to operate independently until 1982, when Kimble acquired Kontes Glass.
In 1997, Kimble/Kontes became part of the Gerresheimer Group. Currently, Kimble and Kontes are marketed brands of Kimble Chase, LLC, a ThermoFisher and Gerresheimer Glass joint venture company. The company is now headquartered in Vineland, New Jersey.
