Teaching our children to become stewards of their environment is a critical step to our sustainability as a society.Today there is a disconnect between nature and our youth. The consequences we see are an increase in health issues, and a generation of children who primarily depend on IPods, and video games for recreation. This is why Greening Youth has created a fun curriculum for children that not only emphasizes the importance of respecting and protecting the environment, but also engages the student as an active participant in their own education.OUR MISSIONThe Greening Youth Foundation will fuse technology, music, sports, literature and old-fashioned fun to teach children the importance of being stewards of our environment. GYF endeavors to achieve its mission through a comprehensive environmental education program which directly works with students and stresses the importance of recycling, water conservation, energy conservation, and re-connects children to the outdoors. The Foundation is a federal 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to educating children about the importance of being stewards of our environment. This philosophy leads us to understand that environmentally enlightened children are the hope for our planet's sustainable future. With the help of our corporate, fellow not-for-profits and community partners, we will take great steps to educate a generation that is C.L.E.A.N. (Children Living Energetically Advancing Nature).Environmental EducationIt is important for children to see the connection of recycling and overwhelmed landfills, sprawl and controlled development, accessible clean drinking water and water quality monitoring of our lakes, streams, and rivers. Our fun-filled curriculum engages students and educators in an interactive outdoor learning experience. Greening Youth's Environmental educational programs include: * Recycling initiatives * Water saving plan for school and home * Energy saving plan for school and home * Composting and Gardening * Building wildlife habitats and nature trailsThe six-week C.L.E.A.N. program is full of excitement and adventure, with a host of activities that will engage students in environmental exploration. They'll be deputized as "environmental detectives" and given the mission to solve some of nature's great mysteries by investigating the 3 R's-reduce, reuse, and recycle.Students will also get "Wet and Wild" as they learn about water and the ins and outs of conservation; study everything from wildlife habitats to dirt gardens, and; get wormy by learning how the slimy creatures, when paired with everyday household trash like coffee filters and used paper towels, can create compost perfect for helping summer flowers bloom.Education Director Ruth Kitchen also incorporates interactive games, literature, and songs to help students celebrate environmental appreciation.
