Georgia Industrial Minerals operates a state-of-the art muscovite mica facility that is based on our patents that cover the separation of mica from the sedimentary deposits of clay, sand, and mica that were deposited in our ancient Coastal Plain area millions of years ago. Our patents also cover the grinding of this muscovite mica into a variety of high purity, high aspect ratio, low bulk density, mica products for several markets such as paint and other coatings, plastics, rubber, cosmetics, sealants, adhesives, and many other applications. Our unique processing and grinding technology was developed in-house and it has several advantages over other mica grinding techniques. This technology is the major reason for the success of our company and it explains the rapid growth of GIM over the last ten years. Georgia Industrial Minerals was created in 1995 to recover sand from the sedimentary ores that contained mica, sand, and clay. Very quickly it was realized that considerable mica had to be removed in order to upgrade the sand products. The emphasis was shifted from sand to mica and the patented technology was developed and implemented. Since 1997 this facility has been dedicated to improving the recovery of muscovite mica. During this time, GIM has gone through several plant expansions to increase mica capacity and add new mica products.GIM is capable of producing a large family of muscovite mica products, including wet ground, dry ground, micronized and flake muscovite mica products.
