A great deal has changed here in Lakeland since we purchased our hometown electric utility. However, one thing has remained the same. Lakeland Electric was built on core values that have remained constant, yet facilitated exciting technological, environmental and economic advances within our community.

As one of the nation's more than 2,000 public power systems, our goal is to provide electricity as a public service in a caring, yet business-like manner and at a reasonable cost. We are committed to exceeding the expectations of our customers, who are also our family members, neighbors and friends.

Lakeland Electric is the third largest public power utility in the State of Florida. The utility is also one of the first utilities established in Florida having started operation in 1889. Today, power is generated at Lakeland Electric's two main power plants, the 941-megawatt McIntosh Power Plant and the 176-megawatt Larsen Power Plant. McIntosh Power Plant houses one of the most efficient coal-fired generation facilities in the southeast and one of the most efficient combined cycle natural gas generators in the nation. These generators help us offer our customers safe, reliable power at some of the best prices in the state. Based on Florida Municipal Electric Association data, Lakeland Electric's residential rates are the second lowest in the state and the lowest in Florida for large commercial users.
