Great design can be achieved through development of clear vision and project problem statements, and a concise space program. One of the first efforts necessary to design this facility will be to identify the problem issues that need to be resolved, and to develop the number and sizes of the spaces required and their relationships to address the problems. Once this is achieved, an appropriate design solution can be expressed. The famous saying, "Form Follows Function", coined by famed architect Louis Sullivan, is a philosophy that is still valid today. The function of the building can and does define the form in many ways. For example, the entrance to a building should be a form that is easily recognizable. Interior functions can be expressed on the exterior of the building by the use of fenestrations or a change in building materials or wall heights. Even the simplest of forms can have architectural impact if the function is tied to the exterior form of the building in some fashion.Given the nature of today's environmental issues, along with the many technological choices in building materials and construction costs, David will design the building to be responsive to the environment. If desired, he will work to achieve a LEED certification for your project based on your wishes and at a level that make most sense for your project. State funded projects must achieve a minimum "silver" LEED certification.Because David J. Eckes, Architect, Ltd. is a small firm, you will get his personal attention on your project. This is the way David prefers to work with clients. He does not employ in-house project architects or job captains at this time. He does, however enjoy working as a part of a team to solve the design problems required to develop a building that responds to the client's needs and budget.
