Black Label Performance was founded in Colorado Springs, CO by brothers, Mike and Mark Gibson in the late stages of 2009. As children, Mike and Mark spent their time watching and helping their father rebuild classic cars. During this time the young Gibson brothers became hopelessly hooked on customizing and building vehicles of all ages, styles and genres. As they became older, they bought and restored or customized their own cars. By the time either brother was in high school, it was apparent that this was no passing phase in their lives.
In high school, Mike enrolled in the Automotive program at Doherty High School to quench his desire for more automotive knowledge. Little did he know at that time, that he would go on to win the Ford AAA Troubleshooting Competition for the state of Colorado and went on to place 19th in the National campaign. Mike, along with his teammate that year, started a legacy of success for Doherty Auto that still continues today. When Mike graduated high school, he immediately decided to attend UTI (Universal Technical Institute) in Phoenix, Arizona where he enhanced his already deep knowledge of automobile systems and engines. Mike immediately knew upon graduating that he wanted to work for a Toyota dealership because of the quality and integrity of their vehicles. He immediately moved back to Colorado Springs and began working at a local Toyota dealership. Mike spent a few years in the Portland, Oregon area and while living there, worked for one of the largest volume Toyota dealerships on the West Coast. Also while in Oregon, Mike contributed to the start up and beginnings of a world renowned performance shop and has ties to two other fore running shops to date
Mark is a few years younger than Mike, but always shared his interest in vehicles and motorsports in general. As a child he was always interested in any form of racing and was very competitive. After rolling his Power Wheels Jeep many times, it was obvious that he was hooked on always pushing the limits of what was possible, even at the age of 5. Mark spent years after high school combing the streets for that next new thing on the car scene. Always trying to 'one up' the competition and having the newest mod under the hood. Mark spent some time working with his brother Mike at a Toyota dealership in Oregon, but quickly found out that routine maintenance wasn't where his interests were. He knew that performance and racing is where he always needed to be.
